A Journey of Resilience Through Education

To us, Signal means: a gesture that overcomes barriers, used to communicate with each other.

It’s something that can be adapted to a situation in order to incite action and growth.

Don Marentette

18 years as a Paramedic and Firefighter in both the civilian and military communities, I have a vast degree of experience in diverse areas of expertise. I’ve been employed as an Educator; have facilitated various workshops including Critical Incident Stress Management, CQI programs, Suicide Awareness and multiple Emergency Medical responder programs. Creating safe environments through strategic collaboration has been a focus of mine for the majority of my career. I have led a stakeholder group in the creation and implementation of the maintenance of competency program for 100 Military paramedics which included the development and negotiation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of National Defense and a large municipal trauma center.

Connecting people and collaborating towards shared solutions is a cornerstone of my career.  Over the last 12 years, I have helped shift the Canadian Red Cross from a routine, workplace compliant training agency into a solution provider and partner in creating safe  environments.  Fundamentally, I believe that educational outcomes must focus on activities and interventions that are relevant and meaningful to the learner to achieve successful outcomes. As such, I have lead the creation of a new curriculum employing case-based learning focused on individuals and populations’ mental wellness. Already in the first year of implementation, the new curriculum is transforming health outcomes across urban and rural communities throughout Canada.

List of Services

Safety

The work we do is to welcome everyone to create safer spaces — at home for our youth and elders or out in our communities and places of work.

Integrity

We do what we say and say what we do. Why? Because we want to build trust with every person we work with. When we have trust and transparency, difficult conversations can be approached with more ease.

Guidance

We know there are endless options to solve a problem. It's not a book, there isn't a start and an end. We are simply here to provide the guidance.

Needs

We believe feeling protected and developing one’s own protection are fundamental skills that everyone should possess. We have witnessed how these tools translate into confidence for folks of all abilities and backgrounds.

Adaptability

We’ve learned the importance of being fully present with our clients in order to understand and empathize with all of the factors that lead that person to us. It is only then that we can know how to best adapt our approach to enhance the value they walk away with.

Learning

We open ourselves up to learn from every client, just as much or even more than we teach them. We come to the table as equals. Pull up a chair!
